Caring for your face is important if you want to look your best. However, caring for the skin around your eyes is a different story. This skin is much more sensitive than typical face skin, meaning it requires special attention. This is even more true for people who suffer from dry skin. Some people naturally have dry skin, while others experience it due to their age or the climate where they live. Whatever the cause of your dry skin, you can use the following tips to help repair the skin around your eyes and prevent it from drying out in the future.

Use Quality Eye Creams

The number one thing you can do for dry skin around the eyes is moisturize. Moisturizers help to restore your skin’s natural balance, making skin feeling softer and appear plumper.

While there are numerous moisturizers you can use, you’ll find a deep moisturizing eye cream with peptides is the best way to go. One great product to add to your routine is the Rodan + Fields Redefine Eye Cream. It’s made of peptides and glycerin to reduce fine lines and other blemishes near the eyes while also moisturizing to repair cracked skin.
Typically, you’ll want to use your moisturizer twice daily — once in the morning and once at night. This will keep your skin hydrated all day long.

Get More Sleep

If you’re pulling all-nighters, you need to stop right away. Getting less than six hours of sleep every night can have a huge impact on the condition of your skin. While you sleep, your body uses that time to repair damaged and dry skin around the eyes. When your body doesn’t have enough time to make repairs, you’ll notice a marked decrease in your appearance.

Use Sunscreen for Protection

The sun is notoriously bad for skin, especially delicate areas like under the eyes. When left unchecked, UV rays enter your skin and start breaking down elastin and collagen, two important building blocks. Over time, this can lead to dry and wrinkled skin. Luckily, you can prevent this from happening by using a broad-spectrum sunscreen. Try not to buy any sunscreens with perfumes or other additives in them; these can irritate your eyes even further. Stick with a natural, zinc-oxide-based product instead.

Remove Your Makeup

Hopefully, you already remove your makeup before bed, but just in case you don’t, it’s time to add this to your routine. The ingredients in makeup are not meant to be in contact with skin overnight, as they can cause irritation and dryness. When removing your makeup, be as gentle as possible by using a cotton pad and dragging upward in an outward motion.
Luckily, the natural look is more popular than ever, so if you feel comfortable facing the world bare-faced, this might be the best option to help your dryness clear up. Then, once you get things under control, add back one product at a time to see if it causes irritation.

Eat Well

It shouldn’t come as a huge surprise, but what you eat plays a big role in the condition of your skin. Add plenty of antioxidant-rich foods to your diet, as these help break down free radicals that cause dryness and wrinkles. You’ll want to skip processed foods and refined carbohydrates, as these don’t have the worthwhile nutrients your body needs. Also, drink plenty of water so you stay hydrated.
Stick With It
Once you perfect your routine for moisturizing your dry skin, stick with it. If you slip back into old habits or forget to use your deep moisturizing eye cream with peptides, you might find your skin starts to crack again. Consistency is key to have soft, smooth eye skin that looks great.
