Regular physical exercise is essential for keeping your body in tip-top condition, but not enough people think about giving their brains a workout. It might seem easy to head to the gym and lift some weights, but it’s easy to overlook how to give your mind some much-needed workout time as well. Keeping your brain healthy and active is essential, and it needs to be looked after as much as your body does. Fail to keep your mind working and your memory can lose out, and you can quickly lose the ability to focus too. No matter how old you are, what hobbies you enjoy doing, or what your workday is like, here are some of the smartest ways to exercise your brain.

Play Some Cards

Research has consistently shown that even a quick card game can improve your mental faculties. Not only that, but playing a good card game can even work wonders on your memory skills and your lateral thinking ability too. You can play card games with friends, or head online and find some live dealer tables. No matter how you prefer to play, card games could be the key to improved brain health.

Jigsaw Puzzles

Whether you’re working on a puzzle with friends or family or tackling a 1000-piece puzzle on your own, you’re certainly giving your brain a workout. Like playing cards, completing a puzzle of any size massively improves your cognitive abilities, and can even improve the ability of your brain to recognize patterns and images. Start with smaller puzzles and work your way up to the most challenging puzzles in the world, and your brain will only grow healthier.

Learn a Language

Learning a new skill is always going to require dedicating some serious time to your brain. The more that you practice a new language, the easier it becomes, and there are plenty of high-tech resources available if you want to exercise your brain while learning something practical. Look at apps like DuoLingo, or even sign up for your local college’s language lessons. You might be surprised by how much learning a new language can change the way your brain works.

Go Dancing

Not all brain exercises mean having to avoid physical activity. If you’re drawn to the stage, then your brain is going to experience something very special if you start learning dance routines. Not only can dancing help your brain to speed up its processing speed, but it can also do a lot of good for your memory too. Try out some salsa, or head to a hip-hop dance class and get active both physically and mentally. If you’re too embarrassed to go to a dance class alone, take some friends along. You can even stay at home and watch YouTube tutorials that can take you through dance routines step-by-step!

The key to a healthier mind is to challenge what you think you’re capable of. The more that you prioritize brain health, the more you will notice improvements in your concentration, your memory, and your mental agility. Start thinking more about your brain and how to give it the workout it needs, and you’ll carry the benefits into every area of your life.
