The Houston Texans made a playoff appearance in 2016 after clinching a division title at 9-7. The most notable move of the offseason was signing quarterback Brock Osweiler away from the Denver Broncos. Holding the 22nd pick in the 2016 Draft, there are a number of directions Houston could go with in the first round.
After securing the running back position with Lamar Miller, the Texans could look to build more weapons around their new quarterback. In the first round a number of receivers could be interesting options including Notre Dame’s Will Fuller adding a much needed speed element to the offense. Later on in the draft there are a number of interesting options as well. Incumbent receiver DeAndre Hopkins would surely be happy if they added Clemson receiver Charone Peake who could be one of the diamonds in the rough in terms of late round receivers. Both Hopkins and Peake are Clemson alums.
Tight end could be another option the Texans look to improve. One option could be Hunter Henry who reminds me a lot of Jordan Reed of the Washington Redskins. In a down year for tight ends, Henry could be worth a look early.
The safety position could be another area of need that interests the Texans. Antonio Allen and Quentin Demps are the projected starters at this point. One player I think could be a good fit is Boston College’s Justin Simmons. Simmons displayed great range in the East-West Shrine game.
Finally Texans fans known all the well how bad their special teams units were a year ago. Houston’s 32nd ranked special teams unit could use upgrades at every spot, but kicker is one that really stands out. Florida State’s Roberto Aguayo has been automatic for his entire collegiate career and could warrant a pick as high as the 3rd round. Outside of him Ross Martin from Duke is another draftable kicker who could be taken anywhere in the 6th or 7th round.
