In a year that was regarded as the “Year of the Freshman” in college basketball, only five freshmen were voted as members of the 2017 AP All-America teams. Of those five just two, UCLA’s Lonzo Ball and Kentucky’s Malik Monk were among the First or Second Teams. Kansas’ Josh Jackson, Arizona’s Lauri Markkanen and Washington’s Markelle Fultz were on the third team.
Also worth noting is how excellent the guard position was in college basketball this season, and this showed on the AP All-America teams. Of the 17 players selected to the All-America teams, 11 were either point guards or shooting guards, including 8 of the ten players in the First and Second teams.
