Time is ticking for two young British soldiers in the latest trailer for 1917.
Director and writer Sam Mendes previously directed both Skyfall and Spectre. In his first major film post-Bond, the director is taking an unorthodox, and intriguing, swipe at the war film with one that will be told in seemingly one long take. And, though that trope can get pretty gimmicky, Mendes has shown an incredible talent for directing action. Plus, with Oscar-winner Roger Deakins handling cinematography, there’s a good chance 1917 could end up sweeping the Oscars this year.
The case for this film’s Oscar chances strengthens when looking at the cast. Both Colin Firth and Benedict Cumberbatch make appearances in the latest trailer. And, big names such as Andrew Scott, Richard Madden, and Mark Strong are also set to appear. Then there’s the film’s younger stars, Game of Thrones‘ Dean-Charles Chapman and George MacKay, sitting on the precipice of movie stardom. But, enough about all that, let’s get to the trailer. 1917 hits theaters on December 25th, 2019.
