The basketball technology company ShotTracker is receiving investments from two well-informed and big-named sources. Hall of fame point guard Magic Johnson and former commissioner David Stern are joining ShotTracker as advisers and investors. They will be helping in the company’s latest project, ShotTracker TEAM.
Following via Kendra Andrews of Sports Techie/Sports Illustrated:
Users of ShotTracker TEAM wear small sensors on their shoes and use a technology-enabled Spalding ShotTracker basketball, both of which are connected with sensors installed in the rafters above the court.
Statistics are gathered and then data is immediately sent to coaches, players, fans and recruiters through a series of apps. This allows you to leave the court with a complete set of comprehensive player statistics such as player efficiency ratings, box stats and more.
This is an insanely cool project, that will reportedly cost five million dollars. But having the ability to track nearly everything that occurs on the basketball court through small sensors is amazing.
This technology can not only be huge for the NBA and how teams evaluate players and schemes, but it can also be of great help for young players. Having wearable technology return advice to young players can help them fix issues in their games at an age where those changes are much easier.
