Everyone has their own story, own journey and own aspirations in life. Taking what you experience as lessons and applying each fundamental skill set you possess to further better yourself, is easier said than done. For many of us, the circumstances we made it through deserve to be told one way or another to encourage those around us and fill them with hope. Now while it may be harder for most to do so but for artist that isn’t the case with such a large platform with unlimited range to express yourself.
Red Hook Brooklyn’s own, Kris Kasanova does exactly that with his mini documentary video, ‘The Great Escape’. Providing us with a behind the scenes look at the life he lives as an aspiring rap artist trying to escape the same place he has called home all of his life.
“The same place I’m trying to escape is the same place who makes me who I am”
For those not too familiar with Kris, he has always been a fan of Rap. Since the young age of 10 to be exact, thanks to his Step Father who would have a young Kasanova attend sessions with him while working with such greats like Big Pun and Mary J. Blige. Now if I were in the presence of that caliber of artistry I would be inspired to start writing my own rhymes as well. Eventually that is what he did and since the age of 17 he has been taking the craft very serious.
“I take pride in where I’m From”
Throughout the Documentary, Kris takes us on a tour of the projects he’s from in Red Hook, gives fans an insight on what drives him to excel in the music industry and he also even introduces us to a couple of people closest to him. It’s key to keep a great circle around you and have only those who have your best interests at heart as a support system.
