Point guard Yogi Ferrell has reportedly agreed to a contract with the Sacramento Kings according to Shams Charania of Yahoo Sports. The deal will be for 2-years and $6.2 million. N
All signs pointed to Ferrell returning to the Dallas Mavericks, the team that first gave him a real shot in the NBA. Dallas ended up rescinding the $2.9 million qualifying offer to Ferrell with the intent of giving him a longer contract. The Mavericks offered a 2-year $5.3 million deal, but Ferrell and his representatives decided to explore their options instead.
As it turns out, there were a few. Charania reports that the Cleveland Cavaliers and New Orleans Pelicans also showed interest in Ferrell before signing with Sacramento. The Kings are one of the few teams capable of dealing out any more money as well.
Ferrell, a standout at the Univeristy of Indiana, joins a young albeit talented team. De’Aron Fox, Marvin Bagley III, and Harry Giles represent a young core that reportedly excites Ferrell. “I heard the vision and optimism from Vlade (Divac, Kings GM) and Brandon (Williams, Kings Assistant GM), and got a view of the culture and direction from veterans I look up to, and that was impactful,” Ferrell tells Yahoo Sports. “I see the explosive potential from a starving young group that wants to open the floor up with more shooting and play with speed and smarts.”
