Yo Gotti and Team ROC continue to hold the Mississippi Department Of Corrections accountable by demanding a coronavirus prevention plan.
The Memphis rapper has lead the crusade against the unfair treatment of the inmates at the Mississippi State Penitentiary at Parchman. Working with Team ROC, the philanthropic branch of Roc Nation two lawsuits have been filed on behalf of the inmates. The lawsuits detail unliveable conditions at the Mississippi prison. Yo Gotti fears the environment is at risk for a coronavirus outbreak due to the penitentiary already low on resources.
“These inmates have been subjected to inhumane health and safety risks, and now have to deal with the uncertainty and potential devastation of the coronavirus, too,” says Yo Gotti in an official statement.
“It is imperative that the Mississippi Department of Corrections implement a plan within Parchman to provide the medical resources necessary to protect inmates that might be exposed” he continues.
Since the initial lawsuits, two additional prisoners have died in the facilities, one of which has not been announced publicly. This brings the total number of deaths to 26. Yo Gotti, JAY-Z, and Team Roc called for the courts to immediately address the living conditions and develop a plan that will eliminate the health and safety risks for inmates within 90 days.
