Prisoners are receiving restricted releases from judges due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Earlier today, Tekashi 6ix9ine was released from prison for fears of contracting the coronavirus, and today rapper YNW Melly has now tested positive. The rapper is now filing a motion for restricted release from prison.
According to Law, two jail inmates are infected with COVID-19, according to information released by the Broward Sheriff’s Office on Thursday. One of the inmates was at the Sheriff’s Office’s North Broward Bureau in Pompano Beach, which said the prisoner showed no signs of the disease after arrest and screening in March.
The inmate tested positive at a hospital April 1, after initially refusing an unrelated routine medical test March 31, which health care staff had recommended.
According to XXL, Melly is currently awaiting his trial in Broward County Jail. You can check out the video from the rapper’s Instagram page below.
The post reads, “Melly has tested positive for COVID-19 today while awaiting his trial in Broward County Jail. He’ll be filing a motion for restricted release in hopes of better care due to any jails not being prepared to treat this new virus. He hopes for your support and to recover soon #prayformelly send positive energy to him please.”
The rapper, who released the popular Murder On My Mind track, is facing life in prison for the shooting deaths of YNW Juvy and YNW Sakchaser. Melly is accused of shooting and killing both men in a vehicle then staging the scene to look like a drive-by with the help of his friend, YNW Bortlen.
