Wichita’s very own, XV, has announced that he plans to bring two of his most revered bodies of work to streaming services this year. He shared the exciting news via Twitter earlier this week.
“[I’m] working hard to get Zero Heroes on streaming this year,” XV tweeted.
“Popular Culture too…that one actually isn’t as complicated as Zero Heroes, but they both coming to streaming in 2022. We on it!”
Released in 2011, Zero Heroes stands as on of XV’s most popular pieces of work to date. With features from Pusha T and Kendrick Lamar to go along with production from J. Cole, the project stamped the Wichita native as one of the leaders of his era. One year later, XV returned with popular culture. In the midst of releases from Frank Ocean, Joey Bada$$, G.O.O.D Music, Nas, Meek Mill, Kendrick Lamar and others, XV delivered a mixtape that was both polished and uniquely tied to his identity. Filled with comic book references, movie metaphors and guest verses from the likes of ScHoolboy Q and Trae The Truth, Popular Culture set the stage for his future.
“Grew up around shells and dudes with bandanas, you would’ve thought I was talking about Ninja Turtles,” he rapped on “Andy Warhol” with Slim The Mobster.
XV is one of many artists that has made a concerted effort to get his previous mixtapes moved to streaming services. In recent years, A$AP Rocky, Drake, Big Sean and several others have made an effort to get their Soundcloud classic and DatPiff hits put on Spotify, Apple Music, TIDAL and Audiomack. Most recently, Lil’ Wayne announced that Sorry For The Wait would arrive on a streaming service near you this year. The only question remains is when the Dedication series will join Sorry For The Wait. While we wait to find out, check out one of the best tracks from XV’s Zero Heroes below, “Textbook Stuff” featuring Kendrick Lamar.
