
Top Rank has reportedly set a date for a super welterweight showdown featuring Xander Zayas and Patrick Teixeira. The bout is set to take place on Friday, February 16, 2023 in New York, New York at the Hulu Theater.
Zayas is one of the most talked about talents in the sport of boxing. The Puerto Rican fighter has kicked off his career with 18 consecutive wins, including a dozen by way of knockout. Along the way, he’s earned the support of Puerto Rican champions like Amanda Serrano and Miguel Cotto.
“I said it the day after [his] pro [debut]. He’s the truth! I don’t want to sound like a broken record, but damn, he’s on his way. Puerto Rico is proud of you baby. I know I always am,” Serrano tweeted after Zayas knocked out Jorge Fortea on December 9.
Teixeira is a former world champion, who has shared the ring with current and former champions like Carlos Adames and Brian Castaño. He began his career with a record of 31-1, but he has lost three of his last four fights. However, he was able to secure a first-round knockout against Adrian Perez in his most recent outing.
The Teixeira-Zayas bout will be broadcast on ESPN as part of a full card headlined by O’Shaquie Foster and Abraham Nova.
