Currently, the Washington Wizards are projected to take Bobby Portis out of Arkansas with the 19th pick in the 2015 NBA Draft. Portis would help the Wizards frontcourt become younger as they have a few free agents who may or may not be returning next season.
In his sophomore year at Arkansas, the forward averaged 17.5 points, 8.9 rebounds, 1.4 blocks, 1.2 assists, and 1.1 steals in 29.9 minutes per game. The stats and energy Portis brings could immediately help the Wizards and turn them into a better basketball team.
Washington will also be working out Eastern Washington guard Tyler Harvey, Arkansas guard Rashas Madden, LSU forward Jarell Martin, Dayton guard Jordan Silbert, and Green Bay guard Keifer Sykes. As usual, the Wizards are focusing more on the depth of the draft rather than impact players, but at least they are now working out a player who they may actually take with their first round pick.
Portis is a great talent, and could grow even more being on a team with somebody who can create their own offense as well as Nene can. It’s going to be interesting to see what the Wizards do in the draft, and their workouts are not at all helping anybody predict what could happen. The craziness will continue until June 25th.
