On Monday June 1, the Washington Wizards will be holding a pre-draft workout for six different athletes. The workout will include 4 guards and 2 centers.
Most notably, the Wizards will be working out former Notre Dame and Dematha guard Jerian Grant. Led by Grant, Notre Dame finished last season with a record of 32-6, with their season coming to an end with an Elite 8 loss to Kentucky.
Other players being worked out include NYIT guard Darian Hooker, West Virginia guard Juwan Staten, Utah guard Delon Wright, Massachusetts center Cady Lalanne, and Stanford center Stefan Nastic. The choice of players is pretty confusing considering the Wizards already have John Wall and Bradley Beal starring in the backcourt, but the Wizards must have something up their sleeve.
Believe it or not, but my favorite player here has to be former Stanford center Stefan Nastic. He didn’t get too many opportunities until his senior season, but i the one year he was a major factor, he did all he could to lift his draft stock. Nastic averaged 13.4 points, 6.5 rebounds, 1.4 assists, and 1 block in 29.7 minutes per game.
Nastic could serve as a serviceable backup to Marcin Gortat if Kevin Seraphin bolts DC like he is expected to. Nastic is 6’11, so he has good size, but could benefit from adding a little more muscle.
Other than Grant, it would be hard to see the Wizards take any of these players in the first round, but based on who they are working out, expect to see the Wizards make some moves on draft day. Washington could be looking towards the second round so they can be prepared instead of having to trade away their pick again.
