Last season, the Washington Wizards held their entire training camp at Verizon Center after holding camp at George Mason the two years prior. Now, they appear to be moving training camp back to a college campus, but this time, it look like the event will be held at Towson.
Following From Washington Post.
It looks like the Washington Wizards will have a new training camp home, at least for part of it, again this season. After holding the weeklong season introduction at Verizon Center last fall, the Wizards are expected to move the beginning portion of camp to Towson University in Baltimore County, according to a person with knowledge of the situation. The team would still finish camp, which begins in late September, at Verizon Center.
The move won’t make anybody happier than it is going to make Gary Neal, a newly acquired Wizard who played his collegiate basketball with the Tigers.
Even with a change of scenery, the Wizards are going to have a chance to get used to playing at Verizon Center again by holding the end of camp at their home court.
Going from college campus to a professional stadium could benefit Kelly Oubre as he looks to get comfortable with the system. Anything to get the rookie ready will help, and something small like this may go unnoticed, but it has to make the adjustment a little easier.
