With a few teams fighting for David West, the Wizards are moving their focus to re-signing Drew Gooden, a newly found stretch forward. After different pieces have fallen in the free agency frenzy, many team have joined the Wizards and spurs in pursuit of West. It would be very smart for the Wizards to sign Gooden rather than compete for West due to uncertainty over where the former Pacer will go.
Even as the Wizards focus on Gooden, they still have an opportunity to sign West. Many teams seem to be trying to get West for the veteran’s minimum, but the Wizards have a little more cap space they could use to lure the big man into DC.
Gooden has already proven himself in the Washington offense, and is the smart and safe sign. The Wizards appear to be tired of waiting for a decision from West and seem they want to have their team set.
