The Wizards are currently looking to create a new practice facility for themselves and the Washington Mystics, which could also turn into the location of where their D-League affiliate plays games if they ends up obtaining a team. The new practice facility would become more modern than the current one at Verizon Center, and would be more on par with other facilities from other teams in the league.
Following From CSN Washington.
“Though a report in April suggested a location at Howard University as a potential landing spot, Leonsis said Tuesday he is still exploring scenarios in the District, Maryland and Virginia. Once the site is located, completed construction for a new practice facility would take approximately 18-24 months.”
The new practice facility will not be available for at least another two years, which could mean the Wizards won’t be seeing a D-League affiliate for a while. Once created, the facility will certainly be more spacious while also holding newer equipment than the currently facility holds. In the current situation, the Wizards and Mystics have to share a practice court and a weight room, but this issue would be changed through the transition.
Nicer facilities could even lure in some free agents, and any reason for a big name player to come play for the Wizards would help the franchise. In the meantime, better facilities could help improve the current roster while also preparing the future of the team down in the D-League.
