Rasual Butler knows how important Otto Porter was to the Wizards down the stretch, and is even going far enough to say Washington needed Porter in the lineup so they could win games. It’s amazing to see a player with such little experience becoming such an impact player for a team that already had a lot of clutch veterans and experienced youth.
Porter did so much for the Wizards on both ends of the floor, and become a defensive monster as the season went on. He has always been able to hit an open jump shot, or even a pull-up jumper, but his defense is what propelled his minutes in the rotation.

“There’s an old saying, they say that pressure busts pipes or makes diamonds,” forward Rasual Butler said. “I think he just responded to the intensity and pressure of the playoffs. He was ready to go and he really was in tune to the game plan and played with great energy. We wouldn’t have had the opportunity to win without Otto. He was everywhere on the offensive and defensive end. He really matured this postseason.”
Porter certainly stepped up to the plate when he was called upon, and showed he is a major part of Washington’s future. Continued improvements will send more time Otto’s way for next season, and he is going to be needed for the Wizards to make a playoff push.
