The 25-year-old spent his first four NBA seasons with the Sacramento Kings. The Kings allowed Cauley-Stein to hit unrestricted free agency after it was reported that he wanted a fresh start. Sacramento reportedly reached an agreement with Dewayne Dedmon to bring in as a replacement.
Cauley-Stein averaged 11.9 points and 8.4 rebounds per game last season. The former Kings big man will compete with newly re-signed Kevon Looney for minutes at the center position. With the acquisition of free agent D’Angelo Russell, Cauley-Stein will be a compliment as a rim running big in the pick and roll. This will likely be a far less motion-based offense than previous Warriors iterations in a style adjustment that is required given the changes to their roster.
The Warriors will continue to search for an identity after losing Kevin Durant to the Brooklyn Nets and Klay Thompson missing most if not all of next season to recover from a torn ACL. The Warriors are making the moves they feel will still make them a contender in the western conference.
