Will Wade was heard talking with Christian Dawkins, an alleged “wannabe” agent according to those connected with Adidas about paying a four-star recruit. That recruit, seven-footer Basla Koprivica in the class of 2019 was the object of the conversation between the LSU coach and Dawkins. According to ESPN Wade was heard saying this on the wiretap.
“OK. But there’s other (expletive) involved in it,” Wade said. “I have got to shut my door … Here’s my thing: I can get you what you need, but it’s got to work.”
Wade just signed the number five ranked recruiting class for 2018 including two five stars and another pair of top 60 four stars. Wade is entering his second season on the job in Baton Rouge and has high expectations entering the year. This wiretap which was not admitted into evidence during the trial could become a distraction for a young team. Most of LSU’s roster will be made up of young players after adding seven players in that top five recruiting class. At this time nobody knows what the allegations that have seemed to implicate Wade and Kansas assistant Kurtis Townsend will mean in terms of punishment. The trial is still currently going although it is supposed to come to an end in the near future. It also remains to be seen whether the fact that the wiretaps were not allowed in as evidence will help the two coaches. As of now, it’s just a bad look for a young and up and coming coach.
