Less than a month after stopping Jason Quigley in the second round, Demetrius Andrade has learned who his next mandatory challenger is. Boxing insider Mike Coppinger has reported that the World Boxing Organization has ordered Andrade to defend his title against Janibek Alimkhanuly of Kazakhstan. Andrade’s lead promoter, Eddie Hearn, and Top Rank will reportedly have 20 days to negotiate a deal or the bout will go to a purse bid.
As mentioned previously, Andrade is two weeks removed from an impressive victory against Quigley. Following the victory, Andrade publicly called for a fight against Jamie Mungia, Gennadiy Golovkin or Jermall Charlo.
“I’m 31-0, Olympian and world champion, so what more do I need to do?” he asked.
With this mandatory title defense ordered by the WBO, he will likely have to push those high-stakes title fights until later in the year.
