It is no secret that we are living in an era of reboots, remakes and re-imagined series and films. On Peacock, Morgan Cooper and company are off to a great start following the first season of Bel-Air. Elsewhere, LeBron James, Maverick Carter and company recently dropped off new versions of House Party and Space Jam. Not to be forgotten, there is a rumored New Jack City continuation in the works. With all of that going on, all eyes are on 20th Century Studios’ revamped White Men Can’t Jump this afternoon.
Written by Kenya Barris and directed by Charles Kidd II, the latest vision for White Men Can’t Jump puts a modern-day spin on the classic film that turned 30 last year. Leading the way, Jack Harlow, Sinqua Walls and Lance Reddick are set to anchor the picture. Not to be forgotten, there are also expected to appearances from Teyana Taylor and Vince Staples.
“Play hard, hustle harder,” the film’s tagline reads.
It goes without saying that Jack Harlow and Sinqua Wallas have a lot to live up to. Starring Woody Harrelson and Welsey Snipes, the original film was one of the 20 highest-grossing films in 1992. More importantly, it has remained a staple in pop culture as it remains on streaming sites, sparking pop culture references and much more. Not to be forgotten, it spawned a video game and produced a soundtrack that featured Boyz II Men, Aretha Franklin and Queen Latifah. Simply put it, it’s a classic.
Will Jack Harlow and Sinqua Wallas do it justice? Only time will tell. Check out the first look at Charles Kidd II’s White Men Can’t Jump below.
