There is no doubt, Wesley Matthews can cause a headache for opposing teams. Whether it be shooting the ball, creating his own shot, distributing, or playing defence, he is exactly what coaches look for in a supporting shooting guard. BUT…. (and this is a big but) THE BEST?!
Wesley Matthews said “Do I think I’m All-Defense? Absolutely. I think I’m the best two-way 2-guard in the NBA,” to Erik Gunderson of The Columbian.
Big words from the undrafted player out of from Marquette University in his 5th year. Granted his 5th year was his best statistical year, but his claims are a little to far-fetched. He averaged a career-best 16.4 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 0.9 steals and 0.2 blocks per game. Not to mention how well he shot from the 3 point line, he killed teams from there. I think that claim is going to anger guys like Demar DeRozan, Klay Thompson, or even James Harden( We know he thinks he’s the best defender). Hopefully this can make this guard play even more exciting for the upcoming season, I mean with all the trash talk between guards, you just can’t wait. Wesley Matthews the best two-way guard in the NBA? We’ll have to wait and see.
