Wesley Johnson On Kobe: “I Think It Will Be The Same Kobe”
Four-year player and second-year Laker Wesley Johnson re-signed with the Lakers this summer and has also apparently been working out with Kobe Bryant frequently. Talking with the Orange County Register‘s Bill Oram, Johnson answered questions about Kobe and shared some of his observations on Bryant’s progress:
I think it will be the same Kobe, but I think – I don’t want to say (he’ll) tone it down – I think he’ll be more effective, more efficient. He’s not going to over-exert himself like he normally does.
A popular topic with Kobe’s return from his Achilles tendon injury is how his time on the floor might be impacted. Not just because of the injury, but also his physical tenure do the Lakers have to be sensitive to his body being able to last through the season. Kobe himself talked about his studying of Paul Pierce in the Sports Illustrated cover feature in regards to his desire to embrace a more effective and efficient floor game.
Johnson added,
People come to work out (and think), ‘I’m going to get some shots up,’ or do what they do. But he takes it like it’s a preparation for the game.
Kobe’s process has always been understood to be rigorous, but the progress in this stage of his career still fascinates until we are able to see what he might do next.
