Former Denver Nuggets’ big man J.J. Hickson is nearing a deal at the veteran minimum with the Washington Wizards, reports Yahoo Sports’ Shams Charania. From Charania:
Free agent J.J. Hickson is nearing a deal with the Washington Wizards for the remainder of the season, league sources told The Vertical.
The Wizards have yet to finalize the pro-rated veteran’s minimum contract with the 6-foot-9 forward, but he is expected to sign in the next day or two, sources said.
Hickson and Steve Novak were recently bought out by the Nuggets. The Nuggets received Novak, along with D.J. Augustin and two second round picks in exchange for Randy Foye prior to the trade deadline.
Hickson and the Wizards seem like a match made in heaven. Despite his 6’9″ frame, Hickson is a great rebounder(10.4 rebounds per game in 2012-13). That rebounding ability is likely why the Wizards, who grab the less rebounds per game than any other team, are interested in Hickson.
In 20 games for the Nuggets this season, Hickson averaged 6.9 points and 4.4 rebounds in 15.3 minutes.
