The Golden State Warriors, reigning NBA champs, have just gotten a little bit better. Earlier in July they sent David Lee to Boston for Gerald Wallace and Chris Babb. Now, they’ve shipped Gerald Wallace to Philadelphia to acquire big man Jason Thompson.
From the announcement on Warriors.com:
The Golden State Warriors have acquired forward/center Jason Thompson from the Philadelphia 76ers in exchange for forward Gerald Wallace, the team announced today. As part of the deal, Philadelphia also receives cash and draft considerations.
“We’re very happy to add Jason to our roster,” said Warriors General Manager Bob Myers. “He has a proven track record in this league and adds considerably to our team’s depth, which was a big key to our success last season and will be moving forward.”
Jason Thompson is a very solid big. He was with the Kings, but they traded him to Philly earlier in the summer to clear up some cap space.
This is a win-win for the Warriors. They get a very capable frontcourt player, and get to shed some salary by getting rid of Gerald Wallace.
For his career, Jason Thompson has put up strong per-game averages of 9.4 points and 6.9 rebounds in 24.6 minutes. Thompson is a good rebounder, and will add to an already astonishingly deep Warriors’ roster.
