Stephen Curry has been a shining star playing for the Golden State Warriors. He led them to an NBA Championship this season, and he won the league MVP award. If the Warriors have had so much success with the older Curry, why shouldn’t they give the younger Curry a shot, too?
Seth Curry has dominated the D-league over the past two years, and this summer, he dominated the Summer League. He has played so well that we all knew he would get an NBA contract, but we didn’t know from whom. During the Summer League, Seth was pursued by many teams. The main teams trying to sign him were the New Orleans Pelicans, the Warriors, and the Sacramento Kings, who ended up signing the 25-year-old guard out of Duke.
Until a recent post by Sports Illustrated’s Lee Jenkins, it wasn’t really known that the Warriors tried to pick up Seth. One reason Seth didn’t sign with Golden State is because he did not want to be in Steph’s shadow.
The Kings made the strongest offer on July 21—the day after Summer League ended—but not the only one. The Pelicans, Hornets and Warriors jumped in as well. “I didn’t want to go to Golden State,” Seth says. “I didn’t want to go back in Steph’s shadow.”
I think it is a good thing Seth did not sign with Golden State. One, because he is not in Steph’s shadow, and secondly, he made a lot more money going to the Kings. Also, he will play a lot more for Sacramento, a rebuilding team, and he will look very good in George Karl’s offense. Going to Sacramento will be a great move for Seth as a person, but dang it would’ve been fun to watch Seth and Steph play on the same team all season.
