For the first time since 1976, the Golden State Warriors under first year head coach Steve Kerr are in the Western Conference Finals after beating the Memphis Grizzlies 108-95 in Game Six of the Western Conference Semi-Finals. They now await the winner of the Clippers – Rockets series.
Golden State couldn’t seem to miss from three-point range, knocking down 15 with eight of them coming from Stephen Curry. Curry led the Warriors with 32 points and 10 assists, including a 62 foot shot at the end of the third quarter. Along with the MVP, the Warriors were led by a balanced scoring attack with five guys scoring in double figures.
Golden State came out strong from the opening tip, scoring seven points in the first 88 seconds of the game and outscoring the Grizzlies 32-19 in the first quarter. The Warriors would hold onto the lead for the entirety of the game.
Memphis would go on a 13-5 run late in the third quarter to get the score within one at 63-62 but the Warriors would respond with an 11-4 run, capped off by Curry’s 62-footer.
Marc Gasol led the Grizzlies with 21 points and 15 rebounds. He was subbed out with under a minute to go and received a “standing ovation” from the Memphis fans. This could be the last time we see Gasol in a Grizzlies jersey, as he is set to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason.
