Throughout the years, thanks to the wonderful birth of the internet, it has become more apparent and widely known just how cruel some aspects of the music industry are. The thought of signing a recording contract to live out your dreams of creating music may sound like Heaven on Earth to any aspiring artist, but as some find out, it isn’t as great as it appears on the outside looking in. While many of our favorite singers and rappers have voiced their distaste for record labels and even go to full fledged war with them, as currently seen with Lil Wayne vs. Baby/Cash Money, it can be an exhausting battle trying to be removed from that situation.
Next up to call out his record label is none other than the ‘No Hands’ hit-maker, Waka Flocka. Voicing his hate for Atlantic Records along with revealing that he was asked to go in the studio after being shot, it seems that Waka is completely fed up.

The first thing the label asked after I got shot is — “can you go to the studio”

From that day forward I knew my label didn’t care I’m just another dollar sign #GetChaMoneyYoungNigga

This comes as just another reason as to why a lot of acts are turning to the route of releasing independently. While being independent comes with the struggles having to handle various aspects of finance and business yourself, it also alleviates plenty of others having a hand in artists’ careers and gives full creative control. Time will only tell how this plays out for Waka Flocka.
