In case you were living under a rock recently, the Sacramento Kings have traded their franchise big man DeMarcus Cousins to the New Orleans Pelicans for Buddy Hield, Langston Galloway, Tyreke Evans plus a first and second round pick in 2017. Yes, it finally happened after so much talk about him being dealt and not dealt.
But the curious case of the DeMarcus Cousins deal and the Kings appeared to get 40 cents on the dollar in value for Cousins. Hield is a good young piece, and Galloway has some talent but Tyreke Evans is an expiring contract, and while draft picks are valuable, they often are hit or miss. Particularly with the Kings.
But the curious issue surrounding the trade is one big sticking point. That’s all the Kings could get for DeMarcus Cousins? A three-time NBA All-Star, a two-time member of the All-NBA team and a guy who is averaging 25 points and 10 rebounds this season, only got that haul back for Sacramento? Well, it appears the Kings, who planned to deal Cousins going into the All-Star break, had a better offer for Cousins two days ago, according to Kings general manager Vlade Divac.
Listen to some of what Vlade had to say in his press conference following the official announcement of the deal.
