The field of candidates vying for the Republican National Committee’s nomination for President of the United States is filled with familiar faces. Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, former Vice President Mike Pence, South Carolina Senator Tim Scott, former President Donald Trump, former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis are among those seeking a place in the Oval Office. In the midst of all of those familiar faces is a newcomer by the name of Vivek Ramaswamy. On Wednesday evening, the billionaire entrepreneur made his debate debut and wasted no time sparring with Haley, Christie and Pence. During his debate debut, he was applauded at several points, but he was booed when he elected to call climate change a “hoax.”
“I’m the only candidate on stage who isn’t bought and paid for, so I can say this,” Ramaswamy told potential voters in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
“Climate change is a hoax…The reality is more people are dying of bad climate change policies than they are of actual climate change.”
In response, Ramaswamy’s political adversary, Nikki Haley, called on China and India to “lower their emissions.”
“First of all, we do care about clean air, clean water. We want to see that taken care of, but there is a right way to do it,” Haley commented.
“The right way is first of all, yes, is climate change real? Yes, it is. But if you want to go and really change the environment, we need to start telling China and India that they have to lower their emissions.”
