Vince Carter has won the 2015-16 Twyman-Stokes Teammate of the Year Award, the Memphis Grizzlies announced. The shooting guard was given the award after voting was completed by other NBA players.
According to the Grizzlies, the award is given to the NBA player who best exhibits “selfless play, on- and off-court leadership as a mentor and role model to other NBA players, and commitment and dedication to team.”
The Teammate of the Year Award has only been awarded the past four seasons, with Chauncey Billups, Shane Battier, and Tim Duncan joining Carter on the list of winners. This year’s voting left Kevin Garnett, Chris Bosh, Andre Miller, and Caron Butler rounding out the top five.
Carter has remade his entire career over the last few seasons, changing from a go-to scorer and superstar to a super-sub and veteran presence for teams in need of his skills.
The 18-year vet is nearing the end of his career, though he has stated he would like to play for another couple of seasons, so it is great to see him get recognition as a great teammate on and off the court.
Carter will be given the award by Battier during Game Three of the NBA Finals, today.
