Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers took on the Charlotte Hornets in Time Warner Cable Arena on Monday night in what would be Kobe’s last game in Charlotte.
Kobe was drafted in the star-studded 1996 draft 13th by the Charlotte Hornets out of Lower Merion high school. Kobe never played a game in a Hornets uniform, but the franchise has a special connection to him as the team that drafted him.
Before the game, the Hornets made a tribute video for Kobe. Michael Jordan, who owns the Hornets, spoke in the video about Kobe’s “unbelievable” career, and he talks about how he was a big brother for Kobe and how he saw Kobe’s competitive drive the first time they ever played each other.
Michael’s video is very heartfelt, and he offers Kobe advice as well as letting Kobe know that he can call him at any time.
The Hornets won the game 108-98, but Kobe played well scoring 20 points and draining three three-pointers. Kemba Walker went off and put up 38 points and stole the ball three times to lead the Hornets to victory.
