Yesterday in San Francisco the two top teams in the National League West squared off. San Francisco Giants’ ace right hander Madison Bumgarner went head to head against Los Angeles Dodgers’ ace left hander Clayton Kershaw. Neither starter disappointed, but Bumgarner got the upper hand, going 6 and a third shutout innings, giving up 7 hits, walking two and striking out six. He not only shone on the mound, but he produced the first run of the game by hitting a home run off of Kershaw in the third inning.
Kershaw went further into the game, going 7 and a third innings, giving up 7 hits, 4 runs, walked two and struck out seven.
Bumgarner became the first pitcher to ever hit a home run off of Kershaw. The only other pitcher he’s hit a home run off of was Zack Greinke. He has a knack for hitting home runs off of opposing aces.
The Giants are now 23-18 and the Dodgers fell to 24-16 and their lead in the National League West trimmed to just a game and a half.
