With 8:34 left in the second quarter of 113-100 win over the Boston Celtics, LeBron James assisted JR Smith for a wide open 3-point shot that fell. The assist gave James assist number 1022 as he passed Michael Jordan for 9th in all-time playoff assists. James finished the game with 1026 assists in his playoff career.
The shot brought the Cavs back in the game as they were now only losing 38-37. The Celtics were having their way early, but LeBron making history seemed to turn the tables and give the Cavs a lot of momentum going into later stages of the game.
At only 30 years of age, James has plenty of time to catch Magic Johnson to become the all time leader in playoff assists. Johnson had 2346 assists in his playoff career, so James does have a lot of catching up to do. With all of the players who want to make a big 3 with LeBron, he will have a lot more chances to pass Johnson and hold the record.
