In the season that has the talks of tanking running rampant, somehow, the defending champion San Antonio Spurs managed to slip up against the NBA’s worst team, the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden. Knicks pulled off a very fitting ‘March Madness’ upset and beat the Spurs in overtime, 104-100.
Before Kyrie Irving willed his Cleveland Cavaliers with a historic performance in a victory over San Antonio, the Spurs reeled off 6 straight wins. Now, they’ve lost 2 out of their last 3 games and this loss, is more alarming than anything.
The Knicks don’t have any stars, as they got rid of any form of a ‘star’ either by trade, buyout or a ‘shutdown‘ and they basically beat the Spurs with an eclectic group of young players, D-League superstars and NBA journeyman.
It’s a historic loss by the Spurs at the hands of the lowly Knicks.
Knicks: 1st team in NBA history to enter a game with a sub-.200 win pct at least 60 games into season & beat the defending champs (ELIAS)

It’s definitely a bad loss as the Spurs try to fight and move up in the Western Conference playoff ladder. San Antonio currently sits at the 7 seed in the west, 1 game out of the fifth seed, 3.5 games out of the third seed and possible home court advantage, for at least one round. The Spurs better shape up and brush this loss off because their next 8 games are against teams fighting for seeding in the NBA playoffs.
