When playing sports is your career, it’s hard to stop. That’s why we see many former NBA players go into coaching, and management to still be able to be around the game they love. It keeps them busy, while also helping them live a live after playing basketball. It’s become a growing issue in sports, what do players do after putting their body on the line day in and day out for 10-15 years? Now, for players who might not have the opportunity to play anymore, will now have the chance to continue their professional careers.
With the new Champions Basketball League, some former NBA players have already created their New York based team, the Gotham Ballers. Fans will get a chance to watch live games through July and August, and the former NBA players will even get paid. The Gotham Ballers created by Knicks legend Clyde Drexler, will showcase some familiar NBA faces. (Video Via Champions Basketball League):
Al Harrington? Al Thornton? Eddy Curry? Renaldo Balkman? I feel like we’ll be watching the Knicks in the late 2000’s. It’s still exciting to see, especially the fact the former NBA players who might not necessarily be able to find the income outside of basketball, now have a way to make money even after their careers. A great initiative, which seems to be a part of a large growth of televised men’s basketball leagues.
