Now granted, there are some historically hard names to pronounce. There are even some in today’s NBA! An ESPN reporter though recently couldn’t quite get the right enunciation of Orlando Magic forward/center Channing Frye.
How about Bucks guard/forward Giannis Antetokounmpo’s greek roots name?
What about Houston Rockets Forward Kostas Papanikolaou?
Maybe even Toronto Raptors center Jonas Valanciunas, hilariously mispronounced by NBA legend, Charles Barkley.
But this one takes the cake. This is the big time, it’s ESPN. The reporter, who seems to not be too sure about his basketball reporting to being with, just flat out mispronounces Channing Frye’s name. The hilarity starts at the 0:05 seconds mark. And no, he didn’t say “Frye” incorrectly.
C-H-A-N-N-I-N-G. Not S-H-A-N-N-O-N. It’s ok though, because Channing Frye might have bigger things to worry about today.
