Anthony Davis enjoys putting on a show on opening night. Two seasons ago when the Pelicans opened up against the Orlando Magic, ‘The Brow’ put up a ridiculous near triple-double posting a stat line of 26 points, 17 rebounds, and nine blocks. Last year against the Golden State Warriors, as the dubs received their NBA championship rings, Davis posted a solid 18 points, six rebounds game but last night, he ramped it up to another level.
Anthony Davis posted an insane stat line of 50 points, 16 rebounds, seven steals, five assists and four blocks. Davis becomes only the second player to score 50 on opening night. The other man to do it was the legendary Michael Jordan.
No player since 1983-84 has matched Davis’ stat line across the five major categories in any game during the season. He was also one block away from having the most points in a five by five game, one of the most coveted statistical groups in NBA History.
Davis produced an all-time great individual performance that many won’t forget for a long time. Unfortunately, New Orleans lost – 107-102 to the Denver Nuggets. Davis’ teammates shot 36% from the field and 18% on 3-pointers. If his teammates continue to lack production and don’t aid him, AD might soon want to take back saying he wants to be in New Orleans for life.
After watching those highlights, the NBA GM’s might regret dropping him out of the ‘player you most want to build around’ category. AD is nowhere near the pinnacle of his greatness.
