It has been more than a year since Swizz Beatz and Timbaland got on Instagram Live and introduced Verzuz to the world. Over the last 14 months, the cultural phenomenon has celebrated the music and contributions of legends such as Teddy Riley, Babyface, The Isley Brothers, Gladys Knight and several others. Tonight, the award-winning series will step into its latest phase.
The time has come for SWV and Xscape to take the Verzuz stage. From “Weak” to “Who Can I Run To,” this latest battle promises to be one that many will enjoy. Adding to the fun, Swizz Beatz and Timbaland are looking to introduce a new element to the event. Those who watch the event via Triller will have the opportunity to vote on each song that is played. In short, they’re bringing the element of competition back to the battle.
“You’ll have a button at the bottom, and as the show progresses you can change your vote as you see where the audience leans,” Triller Executive Chairman Bobby Sarnevesht told Variety.
“I think as much as everyone in the artist world loves and respects each other, they’ll always be competitive — but it’s not blatant, in-your-face competitive, there’s a beauty to it. As the world needed to calm down from last year, Verzuz’s tone softened. Now, they’re about to kick things up a few notches. The voting gives the name Verzuz the sense it deserves.”
SWV and Xscape will sit down for their friendly battle tonight at 8 p.m. ET. Fans can watch the night unfold via Triller, Instagram or the Fite TV app.
