The mother of Gervonta Davis’ daughter, Vanessa Posso, has issued a statement after the boxer was arrested and accused of striking her in the face.
On December 27, 2022, Gervonta “Tank” Davis was arrested in Parkland, Florida and accused of hitting a woman with a “closed hand” slap. The Baltimore native was held in custody until the following morning and released after posting bail.
Shortly after he was released, audio of the emergency call that led to his arrest was shared with the general public. In an audio clip exceeding no more than two minutes, a woman could be heard saying, “He’s going to kill me!”
“I need help, please,” the woman told the emergency operator.
“I’m trying to go home. I have my baby in the car, and he attacked me in front of the kid. And, now he’s messing up my tires!”
As audio of the emergency call surfaced, Davis issued a statement regarding the matter. Among other things, he denied hitting anyone and said that he was not a “monster.”
“Do not let these people misguide you all on this b*llsh*t. This was just yesterday, moments before me and my child’s mother had [an] argument. [I was] watching Frozen with my oldest daughter. I never put my hands on my child’s mother or my f*cking daughter. Are you f*cking crazy? I’m not a monster. I [have] been quiet for too long. I don’t have [a] media team, [publicist], good lawyer [or] spokesperson. [I don’t have any of] that,” Davis wrote.
Less than two days after Davis denied the accusations levied against him, the mother of his daughter, Vanessa Posso, issued a statement via Instagram. In her brief statement, she described her plea to the Parkland, Florida authorities as “unnecessary.”
“These past few days have been hurtful and extremely exhausting for all parties involved,” Posso stated.
“I pride myself on being extremely private. This situation was the last thing I wanted to be made public. The state of our relationship has been in a fragile space and Gervonta and I were both at fault for the argument. While the emotions were running high I made an unnecessary call to law enforcement in an intense moment while I was frantic.”
After Posso issued a statement via social media, Davis confirmed that he would defend the WBA “Regular” Lightweight Championship on January 7, 2023 at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C.
