Contract extensions are coming. The deadline is nearer. Teams need to make big decisions as to what they should do with their young players and if they should pick up their 3rd year options. For Utah. It was all about refreshing Alec Burks’ contract. And according to ESPN.com, they have found an agreement.
The Utah Jazz have agreed to a contract extension with guard Alec Burks worth $42 million over four years, sources told ESPN.com.
The deal, signed on deadline day for players from the 2011 draft class to get extensions, includes incentives that could make it worth $45 million. Burks averaged 14.5 points last season and is averaging 16.5 points over the Jazz’s first two games this season.
Burks’ place in the starting five might be in jeopardy. It’s only a matter of time before my boy Dante Exum gets more minutes and eventually start next to Trey Burke.
As for Utah. Playoffs are still a long way away. They have a good core in Hayward, Favors, Kanter and Burke. It’s just a matter of getting a bench, which is a challenge considering that Utah isn’t the most appealing destination ever. But they have to find a way somehow.
