These two giants wanted nothing but smoke on May 9th.
AT LAST! Take a sigh of relief battle heads and fans around the world as the team URL team dropped the main event off of Nome 5, Charlie Clips vs Hollow Da Don. From seeing the PPV and countless bootlegs, most would say that they have “watched” the battle. But you all know that’s not how the URL gives it up. They provide an experience through their production and editing, by the great Twizz, that gets you anticipating the battles even more. Being the founding fathers of A Capella battle rap, a standard for them is nothing short of greatness and they continue to innovate as time goes on. The only place where this match up could have taken place, was only on the URL stage. Lets not get into Lux vs Hollow.
Hollow, coming into this battle, felt he had something to prove on this stage since his war with Surf at Nome 3. Many believe Surf had beaten him but that was the last time we have seen Hollow on the URL stage. Since then, Clips has risen as the golden child of battle rap and has a fan-claimed title of the G.O.A.T at the moment. Hollow is not having none of that.

Already, Hollow is coming into this battle as the ultimate underdog, so he has to be better than his last performance against Joe Budden. We all know he did not perform at his best and even Lord Jamar, who is not an avid fan, knew he was not at 100%. Hollow’s point is how can Clips be the G.O.A.T if Hollow has stood up against rapping elites like Surf, Lux, and Joe Budden? It is a great point but Clips is URL’s top guy and he has proven on THEIR stage that he can kill anything. Well Hollow, it is time for you to showcase why you still want that top spot!
“I’m just showing you the business”
Charlie Clips. What can we say man. He has been putting on some impressive performances, when it mattered, ever since he touched the URL stage. From Verb to T-Top, it has been really hard to beat, an 100% focused, Charlie Clips. But that’s just it. how many battles have we’ve seen him at 100%? Where he exemplifies stage presence, jokes, Bars, talking to his opponent, schemes, punches, crowd control, and etc. That is what Hollow is referring to. How many times are we going to let him pass with the excuses whenever he does not come with a full three rounds of Clips? He has answered that question on numerous occasions, and more recently in the recap of their battle on 15 minutes of fame. Well hollow, you got your wish on May 9th, but did you withstand your ground when he came firing on all cylinders?
“Bar for Bar you can’t fuck with me”
This battle is one for the books. Whether it met your expectations or not, these two giants tested the big stage with new creative material that could have been a complete disaster. The patience of the URL crowd has grown thicker and it is a beautiful thing for them to allow these battlers to get their material off. When you have the whole world eyes on you, you HAVE to bring something fresh and memorable to the table and they both did that. Both of them showed that they are not afraid of the bright lights or the 1,000+ fans that were in attendance. Without the crowd growing as a unit, i don’t think battle rap would be where it is today, in terms of allowing innovative material to hit the stage.
