Former U.S. President Donald Trump is expected to surrender to authorities in Fulton County next week. An exact date has not been determined, but it is expected to occur before the deadline of August 25 set by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis.
Trump is one of 19 co-defendants named in a sweeping indictment handed down by a grand jury earlier this week. The former U.S. President is facing several state charges, including filing false documents, violation of the Georgia RICO Act and conspiracy to commit forgery in the first degree.
The charges levied against the former U.S. President stem from allegations that he unsuccessfully attempted to overturn the most recent presidential election by influencing officials in the Peach State. Among other accusations, he allegedly coordinated a scheme to have “fake members of the Electoral College cast their votes” for him in Georgia, rather than President Joe Biden. Audio recordings capture him calling Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger and saying that he needed to “find 11,780 votes” required to retain his seat in the Oval Office.
Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis aims to try Trump along with his 18 co-defendants beginning in March 2024.
