Former President Donald Trump is distancing himself from Project 2025, a collection of far right-wing policy proposals from the Heritage Foundation designed to reshape the federal government.
“I know nothing about Project 2025,” Trump stated.
“I have no idea who is behind it. I disagree with some of the things they’re saying and some of the things they’re saying are absolutely ridiculous and abysmal. Anything they do, I wish them luck, but I have nothing to do with them.”
While Trump says he has “no idea” who is powering Project 2025, he has been recorded shaking hands with Heritage Foundation President Kevin Roberts. Trump also said he “needs” the Heritage Foundation and the American public to help push his tax policies through Congress.
“He’s trying to hide his connections to his allies’ extreme Project 2025 agenda,” Biden stated over the weekend.
“The only problem? It was written for him, by those closest to him. Project 2025 should scare every single American.”
Not only did Biden take issue with Trump’s attempt to distance himself from Project 2025, but Republicans also took issue with it as well. Olivia Troye, a former White House adviser to Mike Pence, said Trump’s recent comments were “preposterous.”
“This is preposterous if you look at the collaborators and the authors of this plan,” she said.
“A lot of these people…served in Trump’s cabinet during his administration. There are people that I worked with. I sat in those policy meetings with them.”
