After a surprising return for his sophomore season, Duke point guard Tre Jones has declared for the 2020 NBA Draft. Jones was a projected first-round pick after his freshman but decided to return to improve his stock and win a championship. Jones’s brother Tyus, won a national championship in his lone season at Duke back in 2015 and Tre seemingly was looking to do the same.
In his return, Tre Jones was named both the ACC Player of the Year and ACC Defensive Player of the year. The biggest knock on Jones his freshman year was his outside shooting which he improved by 10 percent this year. He knocked down threes at a 36 percent clip on more attempts this season while maintaining his stellar defensive play.
Some highlights from PG Tre Jones’ sophomore season @DukeMBB. The 6-3 + 20 y/o averaged 16.2 PPG, 6.4 APG, 4.2 RPG + 1.8 SPG while raising his 3PT% from 26.2% as a freshman to 36.1% as a sophomore

Jones is the type of player who will hang around the league for a long time because of his ability to play defense and take care of the ball. He will most likely never be a star but will be a solid role player similar to what his brother has become. He may never be a great shooter but as long as he continues to improve it only help his game at the next level. He didn’t necessarily raise his stock super high this year but scouts have to be impressed with the improvements he’s made to his game.
