Isaiah Thomas exploded for 53 points against the Washington Wizards. Kevin Durant and Stephen Curry swept their way through the Western Conference. LeBron James once again showed his dominance. Kawhi Leonard seemingly set his NBA playoffs scoring career-high on nightly basis. So who has been the best during the 2017 NBA Playoffs?
This is a follow-up from the Ridge Regressed Amplified Net Rating metric creation from two weeks ago. The write-up concerning the metric creation is right here.
The following graphic will show who’s excelled in the postseason and who hasn’t measured up (as of May 22nd).
– Some of the smaller sample sizes produce some funny results. For example, Domantas Sabonis and Malcolm Delaney benefitted greatly, but James Jones played a few minutes of garbage time against Toronto and plummeted.
– For that reason, I chose to use players with 15+ MPG as the primary Tableau view.
– Why are players split by their nominal positions?
– Because Ridge Regressed Amplified Net Rating currently favors big men over guards, I changed to z-scores in order to evaluate which guards, wings, and centers have had greater impacts than the others.
Also, does anyone have any potential names for this metric? Let me know. Check out the table below, courtesy of Tableau.
