I think I’m gonna need a new wingman for this one. Tom Cruise surprised everyone at the Terminator: Dark Fate panel by showing up at the end with a trailer for Top Gun: Maverick. This is Cruise’s first appearance at SDCC since he was promoting Edge of Tomorrow in 2013.
Conan O’Brien hijacked the podium as the panel ended to introduce the special guest. “Thirty-four years ago, I made a movie in San Diego and shot across the street in a restaurant,” Cruise said as he walked on stage. “San Diego is a special place for Top Gun and the sequel was shot here last summer.”
“I was always asked ‘When are you going to do another one?'” Cruise continued as Hall H erupted into cheers. “Well, you’ve been very patient with me. I felt like it was my responsibility to really deliver for you, a love letter to aviation.” Then, he premiered the epic, nostalgia-laden trailer for the long-awaited sequel.
