TDE President Dave Free hints that his roster will be producing new music for 2016. After Kendrick Lamar’s atmospheric performance of “Untitled 2,” Free took it upon himself to divulge information on the loaded roster’s plans for this year. With SZA teasing new tunes on her IG, which got erased in a half-hour, and Kendrick’s performance, things have been mum over at the Top Dawg Entertainment offices. There’s a reason, they have always been about slow-cooking their music; teasing sounds from here and there, but not putting it on a project. TDE has mastered the allure of being a unicorn of music labels. In an interview with MTV, Dave Free gave everyone a glimpse into the mind of TDE’s process, basically making fans thirst, and it hasn’t failed.
“This year was a great year, but 2016 is going to be an amazing year,” TDE President Dave Free told MTV News. “We’ve got a lot more music coming.”
“A lot of artists didn’t come out in 2015,” Free said. “By the time we come back around on this next go? Oh my goodness. It’s gonna crazy. We’re gonna have everybody hittin’. That’s what’s gonna be sick. That’s what’s gonna be fun. That’s what I’m excited about.”
“I’m excited for people to hear the new SZA album,” Free said. “I’m stupid excited for y’all to hear the Isaiah Rashad album. I’m stupid excited for y’all to hear the new Ab-Soul. I’m so excited for y’all to hear Q’s album. Oh my God. These are songs I’ve been living with. I already know what it’s gonna do.”
