Tony Brown is a former NBA player and a long-time NBA assistant coach. As a player, he played for the Indiana Pacers, Chicago Bulls, New Jersey Nets, Houston Rockets, Milwaukee Bucks, Los Angeles Lakers, Utah Jazz, Los Angeles Clippers, and Seattle Supersonics. He also spent time playing in the CBA(Continental Basketball Association) and overseas in Italy.
As a coach, Brown has served as an assistant for the Portland Trail Blazers, Detroit Pistons, Toronto Raptors, Boston Celtics, Milwaukee Bucks, Los Angeles Clippers, Dallas Mavericks, and Brooklyn Nets. He got his first and only head coaching experience as an interim in Brooklyn in the 2014-15 season after head coach Lionel Hollins was fired. His record as interim coach was just 11-34, but in his defense, the Nets were, and still are, a terrible team.
So, yeah. Brown has been around the NBA, a lot. As both a player and coach. If you do the math, he’s been affiliated with 14 of the 30 NBA franchises. Washington will be his 15th. This is an extremely experienced, well-versed coach. Brown should be a great addition to Brooks’ coaching staff in Washington.
